Just 5 months ago I looked like I had swallowed a beach ball. My ankles were the size of tree trunks and I had a double chin. I couldn't eat without getting sick from the horrible stomach acid that would come up. I couldn't get in and out of bed or roll over without a forklift. I could work up a sweat just walking to the bathroom. It was quite a sight.
And then, before I was ready, it was over. There was no peaceful homebirth. The birth pool was never filled. I never heard my babies' first cries.
But they were born, beautiful and healthy. With perfect little dimples and adorable little toes.
Nathan Jared and Ryan Joesph, born September 4, 2008 weighing 7 lbs, 9 oz and 6 lbs, 6 oz.
Then I blinked and they were already a month old. They were changing right before my eyes. I have tried to stop and enjoy each moment before it passes. It's hard to do sometimes. I've settled for taking lots of pictures.Suddenly my little wrinkly newborns were not so new. By 2 months old they were looking more and more alike. Their personalities were becoming more and more unique. They were beginning to laugh and interact with us and with each other. Unfortunately we were really struggling with nursing but otherwise I fully enjoyed this time!On December 4th Nathan and Ryan turned 3 months old. It happened so fast! The sleepy newborns morphed into smiley, giggly little guys. Their steel grey eyes began to turn a beautiful shade of blue. And then they started to go bald, just like their Granddad-With-No-Hair.Christmas came and passed and the New Year was upon us. Nathan and Ryan turned 4 months old. They had their tongue surgery and then the fog lifted and Mommy's nipples let out a sigh of relief. Nursing was no longer a torturous ordeal and instead began to become enjoyable. Finally! I owe a big thank you to the surgeons at the Children's Hospital! My boobies are so grateful! (In case you were wondering, YES, the surgery was a huge success!!!)
And here I sit today... Jason is missing out but I'm taking pictures every single day. Isn't it incredible how quickly they grow? The little guys turned 5 months old today. Yesterday Ryan followed Nathan's lead and started crawling. They can get into everything now. I'm investing in a Superyard play area and some vodka. Play area for them, vodka for me.
These handsome dudes look completely bald now. They do have hair but it's such a light blonde color that it's almost invisible. The are just clones of their daddy. A sweet reminder of him sometimes! I'm in love with their soft, fuzzy heads.
Nathan and Ryan are babbling a lot now. They like to "talk" to each other and to me. Sometimes they yell too. Hey, you gotta be loud to be heard when you're the youngest of six! They also like to stand up and hold onto the edge of the couch. They prefer to see what's going on from up there instead of sitting on the floor. And there is always something going on. Just wait until tomorrow when I tell you about what happened yesterday. Chaos, I tell ya... utter chaos.
