An Inconvenient Truth

I finally got around to joining Netflix last week. My first movie choice was one that I knew my husband would not want to watch so I planned to watch it before he returned. That didn't happen... so we watched it last night.

The movie we saw was "An Inconvenient Truth" and it was awesome. If you haven't seen it, you should. It really reinforced within me a lot of what I already believed. We are destroying our planet. Global warming is REAL and it is a terrifying thought when you consider that the planet could be drastically different for our children and grandchildren.

Without getting too much into politics, I'll mention that the movie is about Al Gore and his personal crusade to educate the world about the crisis of global warming. I tend to vote Republican, but I wouldn't say that I am definitely Republican or Democrat. I'm a "conservative" Christian and I am against abortion but I'm also against big business and I am somewhat of an environmentalist.

My family is slowly but surely moving toward a goal of being environmentally friendly. I would love to live on a farm and be self-sufficient. We've used cloth diapers for more than 4 years and I use the Diva Cup. We plant trees and have a small garden. I recycle and reuse almost everything. I use green cleaners and natural products in my home... no harsh chemicals or detergents. We eat mostly organic and just try to keep things as natural as possible.

My one big concern is our gas-guzzling vehicles. We just bought a 12-passenger van last month. We desperately needed the extra space for our long road trips with 4 carseats, a dog, and a cat plus 2 double strollers and a ton of luggage! Ultimately, I would love to get a diesel van that could be converted to run on vegetable oil. Someday we will make the switch!

Anyway, if you haven't seen the movie, check it out. You might rethink your lifestyle a little bit. You might be concerned enough to take action. Let's not wait until it's too late!
